And behind this familiar profusion lies the work of outstanding inventors, engineers who have created, and are constantly improving, the means of transporting perishable goods. But, as well as them, there are logistics professionals, planning the transportation and supply of high-tech equipment on the road. And the delivery of a refrigerated container is perhaps not as simple a service as it sounds.

In practice, we deal with refrigeration equipment produced by companies from Malaysia, the United States, Japan, and China, integrated into 20-foot and 40-foot sea containers – equipment which is not standardized, which differs in construction and operating conditions. Our specialists and drivers have to be familiar with the operational peculiarities of refrigeration technologies and equipment from ThermoKing, Daikin, Union-Carbide, Mitsubishi, Carrier Transcold, Cool-Chain Inc, Seacold, Conair as well as with others on the market, with refrigerators from various ranges, and years of origin, which also differ from each other.

The sender, of course, is primarily responsible for correct loading and compliance with the required temperature conditions in refrigerated containers. But every responsible freight forwarder must also know the difference in the conditions of transportation, in the special temperature conditions, required by different groups of goods.
For instance, the familiar category of “perishables” is divided into several groups:

  • products of animal origin – chilled fish, smoked fish, caviar, meat, eggs, milk, etc.;
  • products of vegetable origin – fresh berries, fruits, vegetables, mushrooms, etc.;
  • processed products – frozen fruits and vegetables, fats, sausages, butter, cheeses, animal feeds and others;
  • living plants – seedlings, flowers, seeds, tubers, etc.;
  • live fish planting material – fry, larvae, yearlings, etc.;
  • medical and biological preparations – medicines, vaccines, canned blood;
  • raw materials and chemicals – hazardous, explosive and delicate chemical substances, perfume components, etc.

As you can see, the nature of these cargoes can differ radically, and even within the same group of cargoes, temperature requirements can vary significantly: for example, deep-frozen meat requires a temperature of -17 ° C to -22 ° C, but when transporting it chilled, the optimal temperature is + 4°C.

The type of refrigerated container must also be chosen from among several, in accordance with the nature of the cargo and the conditions of transportation:

  • RF – refrigerated (reefer) – conventional refrigerated container.
  • RQ = RF HC (HQ) – Refrigerated container of increased capacity.
  • AFAM / / AFAM + / TRANSFRESH / EVERFRESH / StarCare / StarFresh is a subtype of refrigerated containers having an automatic control system for fresh air exchange, humidity control, and CO2 and O2 levels. They are ideal for transportation of delicate fruits and vegetables – citrus fruits, mangoes, avocados, bananas, broccoli, asparagus, blueberries.
  • MAGNUM reefer is a refrigerated container capable of maintaining the temperature from + 30 ° C to -35 ° C, for loads such as frozen fish, ice cream.
  • And, finally, Super Freezer reefer is a refrigerated container capable of maintaining a temperature as low as -60 ° C, for transportation of sashimi, sushi, tuna.
  • There are other types of refrigerated containers, used less often, but which the freight forwarder also needs to know how to operate – for example, a Stuffie reefer is a container with a top hatch that is used for loading fish directly from a fishing vessel.

Delivery of refrigerated container

On its sea journey, a vessel can pass through sharp changes in climatic conditions and we understand , therefore, that refrigerated containers not only need to maintain the low temperature of the cargo and the composition of the air mixture in the container, but also often to raise the temperature during transportation, with precise control and positive temperature conditions up to +30 degrees!

Today, in addition to a modern fleet of vehicles capable of transporting refcontainers (which are much heavier than usual and increase the load on the axle), we provide refrigerated containers with powerful independent power sources – Generators Set, abbreviated as GenSet or diesel generator – designed for uninterrupted power supply to a refrigerator or a tank container, when transported by road or rail). The use of GenSets allows us to transport perishable cargo almost unlimited distances, or to store it on sites without electricity, with no risk to quality.
And, of course, our drivers undergo special training in the qualified maintenance of all this high-tech equipment.
